This programme is suitable for anyone preparing for their Mountain Leader Expedition but is also open to individuals who wish to experience a wild camp with like-minded individuals.
The event will be held in a remote area of the Black Mountain in Bannau Brycheiniog
You will experience:
2 full days / 1 short night of navigation training sessions (looking at a variety of strategies) The programme covers a range of topics which we will discuss over the weekend:
- Planning, access considerations and risk assessment
- Emergency procedures
- Preparing for adverse weather
- Equipment: tents, stoves, sleeping bags, food
- Leave no trace
- Surrounding flora and fauna
- Local geology
Event itinerary:
- Saturday: Walk out to camp-site, day navigation. Set-up camp and 2-3 hours night navigation (10-15km)
- Sunday: Break camp and depart (further navigation practice) (10-15km)
What you will need:
- Tent, camp mat (therm-a-rest), sleeping bag, stove
- Head torch, map (OL12 Explorer), compass
- Food for 1 night and 2 full days

Jane is a qualified and fully insured Mountain Leader, First Aider with many years of experience of walking in mountainous and remote locations.
